Emmanuel Elliott
Emmanuel Elliot was born in Exeter and is a former
sergeant in the Royal Air Force. His parents were
devout Anglican Christians and from the age of sixteen
Emmanuel read widely on the world’s religions. In
1958, he was introduced to Subud (‘right living from
within according to the will of God’) which was brought
to the West by the Indonesian spiritual guide, Pak
Subuh.
After leaving the R.A.F., Emmanuel worked in sales
and marketing and in 1982 became a partner in a fledgling
print company.
Within a year, he had founded a design and advertising
agency, Elliott, Bolt and Bromley. He left the business
in 1988 and began writing his first book, Revelation
Subud which was published in 1991. He has travelled
extensively in Indonesia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Portugal,
Spain, Mexico and the United States and lived in Budapest
from 2000-7. He now lives in Gloucester. He has six
grown-up children.
In his preamble to The Dawning, Emmanuel
writes:
And it shall come
to pass after this, that I will pour out my spirit
upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters
shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams, your young men
shall see visions.
Joel 2:28
It is one thing to take in our stride the supernatural
events
recorded in the holy books of whatever religion
we may subscribe to and in the annals of bygone eras.
It is quite another to accept that the miraculous
can become
the stuff of everyday life for a very ordinary person
from the humblest of backgrounds in this materialistic
age
of hype and celebrity culture.
Much of what you read in this book, therefore,
may challenge your credulity.
Nevertheless, this is what I am asking you to believe.
And I swear,
by all that I hold most dear, by all that is most
holy,
that every word of it is true.
